Whitt, Kligerman to drive for organization, which will expand to two Sprint Cup teams

Swan Racing, which fielded one full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team in 2013, will add a second team for 2014, the organization announced Tuesday.

Parker Kligerman will join Cole Whitt, who made seven starts in the team's No. 30 Toyota, as full-time drivers for the upcoming season.

Whitt, 22, finished seventh in the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series points battle while driving for JR Motorsports. He made only 15 starts this past year, all with car owner Mark Smith, in NNS competition.

The 23-year-old Kligerman made two starts for Swan Racing this year -- his Cup debut at Texas as well as the season-ending Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

He also competed full-time in the Nationwide Series, finishing ninth in points while driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

"When we launched Swan Racing we pledged to race hard every lap of every race," team owner Brandon Davis said in a team release. "That's what we have done and what we will continue to do. We learned a lot this year and now is the time to plan for the … future by adding more resources to be more competitive."

Kligerman said the team "is expecting steady improvement and we are in good position to deliver. Personally, I'm looking forward to working with Cole as a teammate and as a competitor for rookie of the year honors."

Steven Lane served as crew chief for the 30 team this year. General manager Bray Pemberton said officials hoped to announce car numbers, the addition of a second crew chief and sponsors in the coming weeks.

"This is an important moment for this young team," Pemberton said. "Things are falling into place and we are really looking forward to 2014."

Five drivers made at least one start for the team, which was started by driver David Stremme and owner Brandon Davis in 2012. Stremme logged the top finish for the group, finishing 12th at Talladega in the 2013 spring race.

According to the release, the team is preparing to relocate into a new shop in Statesville, N.C.
