RCR, Caterpillar renew partnership
June 26, 2014, Staff report, NASCAR.com
The partnership between RCR and Caterpillar began in 2009. Jeff Burton competed for five seasons in the Caterpillar car, with Newman taking over this year. A 17-time winner in the Sprint Cup Series, Newman is currently eighth in points with five top-10 finishes heading into the race at Kentucky Speedway this weekend.
Terms of the renewal were not disclosed.
"This contract renewal reaffirms our confidence in Richard Childress Racing and their commitment to excellence," said Pablo Koziner, Caterpillar vice president with responsibility for the Americas Distribution Services Division. "We are also excited to have Ryan Newman piloting the No. 31 car. Caterpillar is proud to have both Richard and Ryan representing the Caterpillar brand in the sport of NASCAR."
Caterpillar has long been a sponsor of NASCAR teams. Before joining the Childress operation, the Peoria, Illinois-based heavy equipment company was a sponsor for team owner Bill Davis from 1999-2008. In those 10 seasons, Caterpillar was most closely linked to driver Ward Burton, including backing his Daytona 500-winning car in 2002.
