Clint Bowyer 2014 driver profile

After finishing runner-up to Brad Keselowski in the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings, Clint Bowyer slipped a bit, to seventh place. Bowyer failed to visit Victory Lane for only the third time in eight full-time seasons. As late as the third-to-last round of the regular season at Bristol Motor Speedway, the Emporia, Kan., native was second in the points.
The lack of victories and concomitant absence of bonus points relegated Bowyer and the No. 15 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota to eighth when the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup began. His best finish in the Chase was a third-place finish in the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 Powered by Kroger at Martinsville Speedway. Coincidentally, his best finishes of the season’s first 26 races were a pair of seconds at Martinsville and Richmond in the spring.
Bowyer’s best year at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series level was in 2012 with Michael Waltrip Racing, when he had three wins and made all the highlight reels as he ran through the pits and garage at Phoenix International Raceway looking for Jeff Gordon after the pair's late-race accident. Known for his big grin as well as a never-say-quit driving style, Bowyer was discovered by Richard Childress while driving stock cars on dirt tracks in Kansas and Missouri. Bowyer’s best season with Richard Childress Racing, arguably, was in 2007 when he posted one victory and earned his only two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series poles. He finished third overall in that season’s points standings. He also has eight NASCAR Nationwide Series victories and nine poles -- all with RCR -- to go along with three wins and two poles in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Bowyer’s NASCAR national series debut came in 2004 at Texas Motor Speedway where he finished 36th in the track's spring NASCAR Nationwide Series event.
