Marcos Ambrose 2014 driver profile
January 27, 2014, NASCAR.com
Likeable Australian Marcos Ambrose slipped a little off of his previous season's pace in 2013 falling from 18th to 22nd in the standings. Although he started from the pole at Watkins Glen International, an accident ended his bid for a third consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory at the road course. His best finish of the year was sixth at Michigan International Speedway.
In 2012, Ambrose tied his best (2009) finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings with one win (Watkins Glen), three top-fives and two poles. In 2011, his first year at Richard Petty Motorsports, Ambrose scored his first NASCAR Sprint Cup win at The Glen. He had 12 top-10 finishes. In 2010, his last year with JTG Daugherty Racing, Ambrose had two top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes. Ironically, his best overall season to date in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series occurred in his rookie year of 2009 when he had four top-five and seven top-10 results.
Ambrose made his national series debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2006 and earned a pole at Kentucky Speedway. The following year he moved to the NASCAR Nationwide Series with the same team and posted a season-best fourth place from his first series pole at Memphis Motorsports Park. His breakthrough first NASCAR Nationwide Series victory came in 2008 at Watkins Glen, which led to his signing with Richard Petty Motorsports. Prior to NASCAR, Ambrose won two V8 Super Car titles (2003-2004) in his homeland. He was the 1995 Australian Go-Kart champion.
