NASCAR star discusses her goals, rookie season in Google Plus Hangout chat
In the chat, Patrick reflected on her rookie season in the Sprint Cup Series, which got off to a great start with a pole win at the season-opening Daytona 500 in 2013.
When asked if she still felt like a rookie entering her second year, Patrick said, "I feel like a rookie. I feel like it takes a few years to feel like you're not a rookie anymore, and then all of sudden, it goes from rookie to veteran."
Patrick also added that she learned a lot and still has more to learn. She said is looking forward to the 2014 season and getting on track for Preseason Thunder at Daytona this week.
Patrick also discussed her online presence and how it has grown over the years, as well as her use of social media. She acknowledged that she "probably won't be racing until I am 65" and talked about how she hopes her large digital presence will help her after her racing career ends.
The conversation later turned to Patrick's upcoming Super Bowl ad for primary sponsor GoDaddy, saying that the commercial "is all about small businesses. ...Using the web to grow your business and make your dreams come true."
The 31-year-old said her goal for 2014 is to run in, and finish in, the top-15 more consistently.
When asked about her favorite tracks, Patrick responded that the big tracks, Daytona and Talladega, are among her favorites.
"I'm ready to start the year with Daytona," she said. "I want to go win it."
