Camping World Truck Series driver accepts sponsor's challenge
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver German Quiroga has a busy racing schedule. But that has not stopped the rookie from taking on a challenge from his Red Horse Racing sponsor, OtterBox, to compete in the Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 17.
That weekend will be a busy time for Quiroga as he will run in the Truck Series' final race of the season, at Homestead-Miami Speedway, that Friday before heading out to Vegas for the 26.2 mile marathon. Quiroga will then have to head back to Miami for the Camping World Truck Series banquet.
Quiroga is currently 14th in the Truck Series standings.
Getting ready for that long of a run could prove to be a challenge as the Truck Series enters its busiest part of the season.
Quiroga, who is a CrossFit regular, has hired trainer Blake Haugland to help him with this endeavor.
Quiroga has a goal in mind for the marathon.
“Once I committed, I wanted to make sure that I was going to be competitive and better than the average. I have a goal in mind set for time and I am training for that. It’s going to be my first marathon and first time running a race,” Quiroga said in a release.
And the 33-year-old is up for the challenge.
“For me to run a 5K, it’s not that big of a challenge. I know that a marathon will be a challenge especially if I want to be competitive."
Quiroga will blog about his training experience for NASCAR.com over the next three months.
