New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman drove the pace car before the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but his weekend entailed far more than climbing behind the wheel Sunday afternoon.
Whether it was talking with drivers Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth about pro football, training for his Sunday role or walking the garage and touring motorhomes, Edelman said Sunday's experience turned him from a casual fan into a serious one.
"Going into their trailers and seeing them relaxed and kind of how they go on with their pre-race rituals, it's pretty cool to see they have to channel their energy a different way than how I personally do for what I do," Edelman said.
During pace car practice, Edelman added, he was able to open it up to approximately 100 mph. "These dudes are certifiably crazy," was his reaction.
Edelman discussed his day on Twitter, with conversations you can see below, and New Hampshire Motor Speedway made a video of his day as well. You can watch that clip -- which includes the rub from Busch that he and the driver of the No. 18 discuss -- below as well.
