Off-Track blog: Pop culture with NASCAR twist
A day after receiving word that the heavy penalties incurred on him and Penske Racing teammate Joey Logano had not been overturned following a lengthy appeal, reigning Sprint Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski ran the tables in a game of Mario Kart.
Keselowski was challenged to a friendly competition by Morning Express show host Robin Meade and -- as you might expect -- the champ’s prowess on the real-life race track translated pretty well to the cartoon one, even if there won’t be any banana peels and red shells to avoid this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
Using the character "Wario," Keselowski finished the race in first place. As for Meade, whose in-race strategy was to interview the Sprint Cup driver in order to distract him, she finished dead last in 12th place.
Meade will stick to her strong suits this weekend, when she will sing the national anthem ahead of the Aaron’s 499 (1 p.m. ET, FOX).
Look below for a Twitter exchange between the two, as well as a picture of the TV studio that Keselowski posted.
U did great champ!
