Drivers to go from the Martinsville bullring to the UFC Octagon?
MORE: UFC stars spar -- over predicting NASCAR winner
What started as an innocent bet between UFC stars appears to have escalated into a fight between two NASCAR stars, according to a Twitter exchange on Saturday evening.
On Saturday afternoon, UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks bet UFC Lightweight fighter Cowboy Cerrone that six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson would beat Kevin Harvick in Sunday's STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway (1 p.m. ET, FOX).
Trash talk between triathlete Johnson and practitioner of martial arts Harvick ensued. Cerrone, who has trained with Harvick and presented his favorite driver with a championship belt last month at Daytona International Speedway, sided with the 2011 STP 500 winner in a fight with eight-time Martinsville winner Johnson. While Hendricks picked Johnson, he met and got a ride from Harvick last year at Texas Motor Speedway.
When UFC's Twitter account offered up the Octagon for the NASCAR drivers, UFC President Dana White obliged if Harvick and Johnson are serious about fighting.
