Lesa France Kennedy, CEO of International Motorsports Corporation and a vice chairperson of the board of directors, joined CNBC’s “Squawk Talk” roundtable to talk about the landmark project named ONE DAYTONA -- a proposed mixed-use and entertainment destination located on the property surrounding the International Motorsports Center directly across from Daytona International Speedway.
“We really need to take it to a new level with modern amenities. That's why we’re going to put $400 million into that,” Kennedy said of the Daytona Rising initiative to upgrade the superspeedway, built in 1959. “Then we also have a surrounding development that is called ONE DAYTONA, where Bass Pro shop will be one of our anchor tenants, and many more within retail, dining and entertainment.
“It will give our fans more to do while they’re there in Daytona. It will extend their stay, and it will also provide some year-round business and economic impact.”
Kennedy, the executive vice president and vice chairwoman of the board of directors at NASCAR, also discussed NASCAR’s $8.2 billion media rights deals with News Corporation and NBCUniversal, parent company of CNBC, from 2015-2024.
“We just signed two new deals with NBC and with FOX. They were terrific deals, largest TV deals in the history of our company so we feel like the time is right and things are on the uptick.”
While in the New York metropolitan area, Kennedy also took part in the first annual Women of Action, hosted by Cynopsis Sports at its second annual Sports Business Summit.
