Dale Jr. recalls Sonoma confrontation with Knaus

June 25, 2014, Staff report, NASCAR.com

Race in 2000 brought future teammates face-to-face

On the 14th anniversary of his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway -- June 25, 2000 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. tweeted about an incident that could make for interesting conversation around the water cooler at the Hendrick Motorsports' 48/88 shop.

On the next-to-last lap of the race, Earnhardt Jr. took out his frustrations on the No. 9 Melling Ford, crew-chiefed by Chad Knaus. Earnhardt Jr. brought home his No. 8 Chevrolet in 24th. Knaus finished 31st, but he wasn't done with Dale Jr., as the driver notes in the tweet below.

As AJ Allmendinger and Matt Kenseth can attest, Stacy Compton is in good company, and Earnhardt Jr. and teammate Knaus will have something to talk about at Kentucky Speedway this weekend.
