The Dillons, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch and more hang with NFL brass
Some of NASCAR's top Sprint Cup Series stars took in the Super Bowl in style this weekend, attending many of the event's high-profile parties. Naturally, many former and current NFL players were around to partake in the festivities. Seeing stock car racing's personalities rub elbows with some of the gridiron's big cheeses -- most notable Green Bay Packer and former Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers -- made for a powerhouse of American sports icons.
The group arrived at MetLife Stadium around 2 p.m. ET on Sunday and headed into the security line.
As soon as the group got into the Tailgate Party, they ran into Kyle Busch and wife Samantha and met up with Matt Kenseth and wife Katie. Ty Dillon and Busch gave each other a hard time as they were in opposing team jerseys, as the rest of the the drivers talked about their weekends and compared stories.
The Dillons then went down to the stage to see Phillip Phillips play the Tailgate party. According to Austin, "That Phillip Phillips was bad ass."
Along with Rodgers, the group had the pleasure of meeting some other current and former NFL stars such as Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers quarterback), Chad Pennington (former New York Jets and Miami Dolphins quarterback) and David Tyree (former New York Giants wide receiver known for making "The Helmet Catch" in Super Bowl XLII).
Once the group was settled in their seats and pre-game activities started, Austin turned around and said, "I'm getting chills and I'm not even in (the game)."
Ty and Austin Dillon watched the game intently and cheered a ton, as they were pulling for the Seattle Seahawks (who ended up winning 43-8).
Right before halftime, Austin FaceTimed a Navy Seal friend who is in Afghanistan, as well as his and Ty's mother.
At the end of the game, Bowyer was miffed and said, "I kept thinking the Broncos would turn it around," but also admitted it was just cool to be at the game.
The high points of the event for Austin and Ty Dillon were the halftime show featuring Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and when they first got to the game and took in the atmosphere, respectively.
