So with Earnhardt in the middle of a career-defining season, Majors fielded a question in an "Ask Me Anything" session on Reddit on Monday about the changes he's seen in the driver both behind the wheel and in terms of his approach to preparation.
"He's matured a lot more as a driver and drives very smart," Majors said. "He has a good communication with Stevie (Letarte, crew chief) and the team. The team is working as a whole and its (sic) a lot of fun."
Majors touched on plenty of other NASCAR questions and general points of his job as spotter. Scroll down for the highlights and be sure to check the full transcript over at r/NASCAR.
On his most memorable "my bad" moment as a spotter:
-- Probably telling Jr. to "hold the brakes" when we were upside down in a Daytona Nationwide race!
On if things get awkward with other spotters when their drivers wreck:
-- Sometimes but we all know we aren't driving the cars and accidents happen. I was near the 20 car spotter in Sonoma, he gave me a look for sure!
On if there are any drivers he tries to give extra room to:
-- Some, most are pretty courteous tho (sic).
On what it's like to spot during qualifying at Daytona and Talladega:
-- Group qualifying is wild at plate tracks. I am not sure there will ever be a game plan for those situations that is fool proof (sic).
On what the final laps of the Daytona 500 felt like:
-- I was concerned about the debris at first but with only a few laps left we had no choice but to stick it out and go for the win. I knew in turn 3-4 when they were still side by side behind us we were in really good shape. I was kind of in shock at first.
On which tracks are toughest to spot at:
-- Talladega and Daytona are tough but so are short tracks and Pocono. Its (sic) really hard to see turn 1 at Pocono. Short tracks always have something going on so you have to be on your toes at all times.
On what song he'll pick for Earnhardt's Bristol night race intro:
-- I would pick "Move" by Ludacris. It depends on what kind of mood he is in.
On his opinion of the new Chase for the Sprint Cup format:
-- I am not sure yet since we haven't done it yet! It looks exciting and should make the racing intense during the Chase.
On if he'd rather fight one horse-sized Dale Earnhardt Jr. or 100 duck-sized Brad Keselowskis:
-- I would probably fight the ducks. Horses are rather big unless it was a mini horse Dale Jr.
