NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty recently sat down with longtime broadcaster and former New York Yankees catcher Fran Healy of MSG Plus for a unique interview at Petty's Richard Petty Motorsports complex in Concord, N.C.
The interview -- which took place prior to his recent comments about Sprint Cup Series driver Danica Patrick -- touched on all sorts of subjects, including his famous get-up of sunglasses and a cowboy hat.
"The reason I wear sunglasses is basically my eyes are really sensitive to light; I wore those for years," Petty told Healy. "The cowboy hat really came about for several different reasons. The 1970s and stuff, we had different sponsors. You had Goodyear, you had STP, a gas company, a car company and every time you'd do an interview and stuff you had the wrong hat on."
Petty and Healy also get touch on The King's history of growing up in racing, running the business and what Daytona International Speedway -- where he's the all-time leader in wins with 10 -- means to him and everyone involved in the sport of NASCAR. Petty also offered an interesting response when asked if he's ever been pulled over while street driving.
