Stenhouse Jr., Zest launch 'Shower to the People'
Sprint Cup Series driver and his sponsor offer PSA to help those in need

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and one of his primary sponsors, Zest personal care brand, have teamed up to tackle a serious issue across the country, joining Family-to-Family.org to create a public service announcement video.

The program that Stenhouse promotes in the PSA, called Shower To The People, addresses the serious and sadly overlooked issue of getting basic personal care items into the hands of people who struggle to afford them.

 A few quick facts about the issue:

-- SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program, and other major federal assistance programs don't cover personal care items.

-- A 2013 study by Feeding America found that of people unable to afford basic household goods, 55 percent regularly skip shampooing and 33 percent bathe without soap.

-- 40 percent of that study's respondents reported skipping or delaying rent payments in the past year to afford non-food household essentials.

The spot will debut this weekend on the big screen at Daytona International Speedway
