Ashley Parlett set to raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation
From streakers on the field at sporting events to a skinny-dipping Clark Griswold in the first National Lampoon's Vacation movie, people have certainly been known to take their clothes off for less-noble reasons than Ashley Parlett.
The truck mechanic for Ben Kennedy's No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports Camping World Truck Series driver and self-proclaimed "washed up sprint car driver" will be stripping down to her unmentionables for an amazing cause next month when she will be running in the fabled "Cupid's Undie Run" on February 15 in Atlanta. If you've never heard of the event, the organization's website describes it as such:
Cupid’s Undie Run is a mile(ish) run in your bedroom-best on Valentine’s weekend. No, we’re not crazy, we’re just crazy serious about raising money for The Children’s Tumor Foundation. We raised over $1.3 Million in donations last year, so come join the fun and help us double it for 2014!
It's obviously a fantastic cause and one that deserves recognition. As of Tuesday afternoon, Parlett is over the halfway mark of her pledged $1000 goal to support eight-year-old Jack Burke, a young boy who has been affected with neurofibromatosis since the age of two and has developed a complex tumor behind his left eye.
From Parlett's Donation Page on HopeCur.com:
I will be stripping to my skivvies and running around in the frigid temps this February, all in an effort to raise funds so kids like Jack Burke can grow up happy and healthy. Jack is the kind of kid that immediately becomes your best friend - such a character, a great big brother and just happy as can be.
...but Jack's journey is a tough one. He was diagnosed with NF (neurofibromatosis) at two-years-old and, along with other tumors, he has a plexiform neurofibroma (a complex tumor) just behind his left eye.
And now, just this September, they discovered a new tumor on his brain stem that needs immediate intervention. So, as you are reading this, he will have started 15 months of chemotherapy. An 8-year-old going through chemo!
NO CHILD SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS, so I am running in my undies in the freezing cold because I will do whatever it takes, no matter how ridiculous, to help find a cure for NF!
Your donation, whether it be $5 or $500, will provide critical funding to the Children's Tumor Foundation and allow for clinical trials, treatments and ultimately the cure we desperately need.
I sincerely thank you, Jack thanks you, and the millions of families who will benefit from this effort thank you.
100% of donations go directly to the Children's Tumor Foundation.
Wow. Blown away by the donations to my @CupidsUndieRun endeavor. We love these kiddos and your donation means the world to me. Thank you— Ashley Parlett (@Just_AP) January 14, 2014
