One of NASCAR’s three national series – in this case, the Camping World Truck Series – will host a dirt track race for the first time since 1970, making a nod to the sport's early history.
The 1970 race at State Grounds Speedway in Raleigh, N.C., was a 100-mile event on the half-mile track. Driving the No. 43, Richard Petty thrilled a crowd of 6,000 and won the race by two full laps.
On July 24 -- that's a Wednesday -- of the 2013 season, the CWTS will race at Tony Stewart’s half-mile dirt track at Eldora Speedway in Ohio.
