In one of NASCAR Sprint Cup racing’s most memorable events, David Pearson nursed his No. 21 Mercury through the infield grass and across the finish line after he and Richard Petty had wrecked on the final lap while battling for the lead. The Wood Brothers waited 35 years for their next victory in the Great American Race. It came in 2011 when Trevor Bayne shocked the stock car world with a victory at Daytona in his second NASCAR Sprint Cup start.
