David Reutimann

Today's NASCAR Number is 227

227: The fewest number of laps ever run in a Coca-Cola 600. On May 25, 2009, driver David Reutimann and crew chief Rodney Childers gambled that rain would halt the 600 and opted to stay out under caution while other lead-lap cars came to pit road. It was the right call. After a long delay and extensive track-drying efforts, NASCAR called the race at 227 laps, giving Reutimann his first Sprint Cup Series victory and Childers his first win as a Cup crew chief. At 39, Reutimann became the oldest first-time winner since Lake Speed picked up his only Cup victory in 1988 at age 40.
