700: That’s the number for Bojangles’ Southern 500 weekend at Darlington Raceway, because Jeff Gordon will make his 700th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start in Saturday night’s race. All Gordon’s starts are consecutive, from his first race at Atlanta in November 1992 -- an event noted more at the time as Richard Petty’s last run in a Cup car and as the decider for Alan Kulwicki’s series championship. Gordon hasn’t missed a race since then. Now in his 21st full year of Cup racing, Gordon would break Ricky Rudd’s record of 788 straight starts if he competes without interruption through the 28th points race of the 2015 season, assuming the current 36-event schedule.
