2010: Finished career-best seventh in series points. Split season, running first 28 races for Diamond-Waltrip Racing, then finishing with Roush Fenway Racing. Won three consecutive poles (Gateway-1, Lucas Oil Raceway, Iowa), tying a mark held by four drivers - Sam Ard (1983), Mark Martin (1987), Michael Waltrip (1989) and Jeff Gordon (1992). Best finish, third, at Gateway-1 and Richmond-2. Eight of 11 top-10 finishes came in second half of season, including top 15s in five of his seven starts for RFR. Added six top fives. Led 99 laps. Raised Driver Rating by more than seven points over 2009 to 88.29.
2009: Finished 32nd in series points. Competed in 15 events for three owners: Jimmy Means (series debut at Bristol-1, his home track), Michael Waltrip (12) and Bryan Mullet (two). Recorded first career pole, at Lucas Oil Raceway and led 34 laps en route to a seventh-place finish. Matched that result in September at Richmond. Five top-15 finishes as well . 81.5 Average Driver Rating.
PREVIOUS RACING HISTORY
In 2011 made 17 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts for Wood Brothers Racing, including winning the Daytona 500. In 2010, made NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at Texas in November after qualifying on time for Wood Brothers Racing, starting 28th and finishing 17th, on the lead lap. Started the 2009 season with a second-place finish at the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale, earning Sunoco Rookie of the Race honors. Made his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut in 2007, then signed a driver development deal with Dale Earnhardt, Inc., for the 2008 K&N East season. Finished fourth in the standings in 2008 with his first win, at Thompson, adding six top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 13 starts. Began in karting at age five and over the next eight years amassed three world championships, 18 state and track championships and more than 300 feature wins. At age 13 moved to the Allison Legacy Series, where he became the series' youngest rookie of the year in 2004 and then won the series' national championship in 2005. At age 15, he raced in the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Southern Division, where he set another mark as the youngest rookie of the year.
NOTEWORTHY
In 2012 plans another partial season of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing in the famed No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford while also competing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
