The No. 2 Kevin Harvick Inc. team has really been rolling the past two weeks. With two top-five finishes at Bristol and Fontana, I can't wait to get to one of my favorite tracks on the circuit this weekend, Texas Motor Speedway. It was nice to have an off weekend. As many of you know, I am a huge basketball fan. Even though my North Carolina Tar Heels were knocked out of the tournament early, I did get the chance to fly to Houston for the men's Final Four. It was an opportunity to see the best in men's college basketball compete and lucky for me, I was able to go and support a long time friend.
Shaka Smart, the head coach of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) men's basketball team, has been a good friend of mine for a very long time. We grew up together, went to the same school and played basketball together. Even though VCU lost the game, my wife, Amanda, and I had a great time in Houston routing them on.
As much fun as we had this weekend, my attention is now focused on nine consecutive weeks of racing. I couldn't think of a better place to start a long stretch than Texas Motor Speedway. It has to be one of my very favorite tracks -- it is so fast and I've had a lot of success there in the past. I won my second-career Cup Series race at the 1.5-mile track; it was a great battle down to the line with my friend Kasey Kahne. Even though that is my only win at Texas, I have been able to record top-five finishes in all three of NASCAR's top series at the track.
At the end of last season I was able to capture the Cup Series pole at TMS and turn one of the fastest laps ever in the new car. It was a great day because not only did I win the pole, but that is the race in which we announced that CitiFinancial, soon to be OneMain Financial, and I would be joining KHI in 2011. It has been a great experience so far. Kevin and DeLana are very involved and hands-on owners. Even though we didn't come out of the gate exactly like we wanted, the past two weeks have shown just how strong of a team we are.
I'm really looking forward to getting back to Texas. OneMain Financial returns to the hood of the No. 2 Chevrolet this weekend and I could not think of a better way to start a nine race stretch than with our first trip to Victory Lane! We will see what happens. Until next time, HOLLA!
