CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Bank of America Charitable Foundation is giving $1 million to education programs as part of a series of school initiatives linked to the bank's sponsorship of the October race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Nearly two dozen nonprofits in the Charlotte area will split the money.

Bank of America is also sponsoring the Students at the Speedway program, which connects success in the motorsports industry with success in school. The program will take students to the speedway to learn about science, technology, engineering and math in relation to NASCAR.

The bank will also sponsor a NASCAR Career Day for 500 high school students on Sept. 28 at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
