AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Ron Hornaday, involved in the crash seven days ago that set off the firestorm over Kyle Busch's future, said Friday he has been in contact with Busch's team about driving the No. 18 Toyota truck in 2012.

Kevin Harvick is shutting down his Truck operation at the end of the season, leaving the four-time series champion without a guaranteed ride next season. During his media availability at Phoenix International Raceway, Harvick mentioned that former KHI crew chief Rick Ren -- now working at Kyle Busch Motorsports -- had asked Hornaday about his interest.

"Rick Ren and I have been working on stuff like that before," Hornaday said.

But Hornaday said while he appreciates the gesture, particularly after Busch sent him head-first into the outside concrete wall under caution at Texas, he has other options.

"I've got something else working," Hornaday said. "I've already signed a letter of intent."

Hornaday declined to disclose the team with which he has reached that point, but said his long-time manufacturer loyalty precludes him from jumping to a rival brand.

"I wouldn't do that to Chevrolet," Hornaday said. "Chevrolet's been too good to me, too long."

Busch didn't talk specifically about the offer during his news conference, but he did say he had talked with Hornaday since Friday.

"I don't remember what day it was, but it was within a day or two of the incident, so yeah," Busch said. "We had a discussion -- a conversation that ended well. We hung up and I'm still invited over to the house to stay on the couch if I need it, so that's good."
