1955: Lee Petty takes the lead with 10 laps left and holds off Dick Rathman at Speedway Park in Jacksonville, Fla., to score his 20th victory in NASCAR's premier series. Rathman, the pole winner, places second with Herb Thomas third. Petty, who collects $1,000, leads 168 of the 200 laps on the half-mile dirt track.
