1959: Shorty Rollins uses a last-lap pass to win a 100-mile qualifying race for NASCAR's Convertible Division at Daytona International Speedway. Marvin Panch finishes second with NASCAR Hall of Famers Richard Petty and Glen Wood third and fourth, respectively. Two days later, Rollins starts second and places 38th in the first Daytona 500, driving one of 21 convertibles in the 59-car field. The 1959 season was the final one for ragtops under NASCAR sanction.
