1988: Neil Bonnett ends a 29-race dry spell by winning the Pontiac 400, the last race on the .542-mile Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway oval. Bonnett made up two laps lost in a four-tire green flag pit stop to beat Ricky Rudd by 1 1/2 car lengths. Rudd protested the finish, claiming Bonnett had only regained one lap and that he was the rightful winner, but NASCAR officials upheld the results. Richard Petty took third, marking his last top-five finish in NASCAR's premier series.
