Jerry Cook made his racing career in NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour competition , claiming six championships, four in consecutive years (1971, '72, '74, '75, '76, '77). By coincidence, Cook and Richie Evans -- a nine-time NASCAR Modified champion -- were from the same hometown, Rome, N.Y., and had one of the biggest on-track rivalries in the division's history.
Cook served as the full-time director of NASCAR's Featherlite Modified Tour and as an administrator for the sanctioning body. He also served as a member of NASCAR's competition committee. In 1989, Cook was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association's Hall of Fame at Darlington Raceway.
