Ford Motor Company hurricane relief actions

September 14, 2005
03:33 PM EDT (19:33 GMT)

A full-scale campaign by Ford Motor Company employees and dealers to help the relief efforts in the areas affected by the hurricane has resulted in vehicle donations, money and in-kind donations that have topped $4 million so far.

  • Ford Motor Company Fund has pledged a total contribution of $1 million to disaster relief organizations such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and America's Second Harvest. This contribution includes a match of Ford employee donations and Ford employees are continuing to make donations.
  • Ford Division will donate national television advertising airtime in September to the American Red Cross fundraising campaign to appeal for donations. The Red Cross ads will replace some of the previously planned Ford vehicle ads and will begin appearing this weekend during several of the NFL season kickoff games and other prime-time programming.
  • $2 million vehicle donation of more than 170 used trucks, vans and SUVs donated for use in the relief effort. These vehicles have already been deployed to the states of Mississippi and Louisiana and are making a big difference delivering water, ice and food throughout the Region. Additional vehicle donations are also being considered.
  • Ford Motor Credit is offering deferred payments until 2006 for customers in the affected areas.
  • A $750 Disaster Relief Program incentive, on top of other incentives, to assist affected people in the purchase of replacement vehicles as they begin to rebuild their lives.
  • On Friday, September 9, Ford will donate the use of its toll-free customer call centers and more than 500 Ford call agents to assist television networks and cable stations conducting a national telethon fundraising effort.
  • Many members of the UAW-Ford team have assisted on many fronts including shipping of supplies and donating water.
  • The Southwest Region along with area Ford dealers have contributed over $100,000 toward providing food and other basic needs for displaced Hurricane victims being housed in Ford-branded facilities (Ford Arena and Ford Park in Beaumont) near Houston.
  • Ford is also aware of many local dealership fundraising efforts underway or planned. One Ford dealer reported raising over $40,000 last weekend to support the cause.
