Motor Racing Outreach to provide outpost

NASCAR's Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) is supporting the North Carolina Southern Baptist Men's Disaster Relief Team (NCBMDRT) that is helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina in Gulfport, Miss.

On Wednesday, MRO's 52-foot community center, that travels week to week with the NASCAR racing series, began the 600-mile trip to Gulfport. Upon arrival, it will serve as the outpost base of operation for the NCBMDRT.

The traveling unit has a fully equipped office with satellite communications for responders and victims. It features a classroom area, sleeping quarters and work space for the response team. The unit plans to remain in Gulfport for at least four weeks. Regular MRO activities with the NASCAR racing community will not be interrupted during this time. Children and community services will take place at their usual locations by using RVs provided by Tom Johnson's Camping Center of Concord, N.C.
