"That'll learn ya!"-Yosemite Sam
I grew up in Maysville, Ky., located on the Ohio River about 60 miles east of Cincinnati. An avid baseball fan, I had the fortune of listening to now Hall of Famer Marty Brennamen call Reds games. The older I got the more I appreciated his candor and direct approach. I wanted to be a sports caster, but soon realized my twang wouldn't make that possible.
In community college of my hometown I did TV work both in front of and behind the scenes and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree, and furthered my education at Western Kentucky University. After one year I transferred to Morehead State University, where I filmed for the football team and coach's show and took journalism courses.
Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Arts I began a sports journalism career that has carried me through five newspapers, four states and two Web sites.
I have an extensive hippopotamus collection, with upwards to 400 riverhorses made of all shapes, sizes, materials and colors.
