Gordon's 2007 sets new standard of measurement

Quick, who were the Nextel Cup runners-up in 2004, 2005, and 2006? While most of us will need a moment to think about that before we come up with the names, in the future I doubt many of us will hesitate remembering the 2007 runner-up. After all, in any other year, under the current or past point systems, Jeff Gordon had a season that was easily good enough to win the championship.more

Biography

How not to become a writer for NASCAR.COM:

  1. Be born and raised in the suburbs of Kansas City.
  2. Never get better than a "C" in English your entire life.
  3. Get a bachelor's degree from East Texas State University in Advertising Art Direction.
  4. Stumble into an advertising copywriting career (see No. 2).
  5. Aspire to be wealthy.
  6. Love Formula One.

Mitigating factors:

  1. Know a little something about cars and driving fast.
  2. Survive owning a 1974 Kawasaki 500 H1 Mach III Triple.
  3. Have an educated opinion and thick skin.
  4. Work your way up through the ranks -- and from an entirely different department -- at NASCAR.COM.
  5. Two words: spell checker
  6. Make no apologies for your love of NASCAR.

When not writing and producing content for Turner Sports New Media, I spend as much time as possible with my daughter, Marlee. I love to cook out (on a proper charcoal grill, thank you), learn as much as I can about aviation, and live and die by the fortunes of my Kansas City Chiefs, the KU Jayhawks and Scuderia Ferrari.
