Little-known rookie David Gilliland passed J.J. Yeley with about 10 laps to go and went on to win the Meijer 300 on Saturday at Kentucky Speedway.

Gilliland is the first non-Cup regular to win a Busch Series race this season. Gilliland is running a limited schedule this season for a start-up team.

Gilliland held off a flurry of activity behind him on the final restart with six laps left.

Yeley, who remains winless in 69 career Busch starts, finished second.

Cup veteran Jerry Nadeau serves as a consultant for Gilliland.   More
