CLERMONT, Ind. (AP) -- Rookie Carl Edwards stretched his gas to the end Friday night to win the Craftsman Truck Series Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Edwards, in his first complete season with Roush Racing, needed every drop of fuel in his tank to hold on for his second win in the past four races. His engine began to sputter on the final lap.
As late challengers Jason Leffler and Rick Crawford fell to empty fuel tanks over the final 10 laps, Edwards conserved enough to get to the finish line just ahead of Travis Kvapil.
"I thought I was going to run out of fuel," Edwards said. "Then Kvapil started catching me and I got really nervous."
