Founded in 1986, Memphis Motorsports Park is located just minutes from Graceland and world-famous Beale Street in Memphis -- "Home of the Blues, Birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll." The multi-track facility includes a three-quarter-mile NASCAR oval, a one-quarter-mile NHRA championship drag strip, a 1.77-mile road course and more than 400 acres that host more than 200 events and 550,000 racers and race fans each year.

Memphis Motorsports Park is owned by Dover Motorsports Inc., a leading promoter of motorsports events in the United States. Dover Motorsports Inc. subsidiaries operate four tracks in three states, and present more than 400 motorsports events each year. This includes 15 major, national events which operate under the auspices of three of the premier sanctioning bodies in the U.S. -- NASCAR, NHRA, and IRL.

Dover Motorsports Inc. also owns and operates Dover International Speedway in Dover, Del.; Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis; and Nashville Superspeedway near Nashville, Tenn.

A group of local investors originally developed the Memphis property as a drag strip with an adjacent road course, a dirt track and a go-kart track. The drag strip immediately drew the attention of the NHRA and was awarded a sanction in 1988 as the host site of the Mid-South Nationals. While the NHRA has 140 member tracks, Memphis is one of only 23 to host a national event.

The facility was purchased by the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach in 1996, and a three-quarter-mile paved oval was built on the site of the dirt track. In 1997, Memphis Motorsports Park was acquired by Dover Motorsports Inc., in connection with its purchase of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach.

On September 13, 1998, before a sell-out crowd and a national television audience, the facility hosted its first NASCAR event -- the Craftsman Truck Series Memphis 200. NASCAR has returned every year since with two events -- the Craftsman Truck Series in the summer, and the Nationwide Series in the fall.
