The number 13 was certainly lucky for California native Jimmie Johnson, whose crew made the right call on the final pit stop for victory in the NAPA Auto Parts 500 at California Speedway. It was Johnson's first Winston Cup win, in the rookie's 13th career start.
With 17 laps remaining, Johnson ducked onto pit row for gasoline while challenger Kurt Busch grabbed fuel and two tires. The track position gained by Johnson was the difference, as he moved around Bill Elliott for the final time with 14 laps to go and held off Busch and Ricky Rudd for the victory.
