In November’s AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, Jeff Burton reached a milestone achieved by very few in the sport of stock car racing. The race marked Burton’s 1,000th start across NASCAR’s three national series and penultimate start as a full-time competitor. In 2014, Burton will drive the No. 66 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota part-time and test for them before moving to the NBC broadcast booth in 2015. The season past mirrored 2012 when he had two top-five finishes and six top 10s. Burton’s best result in 2013 was a third-place finish in the Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Nicknamed the “Mayor of the Garage,” Burton is the go-to guy when members of the media have a questions requiring balanced and expert analysis. He joined Richard Childress Racing in 2005. His best season with RCR was in 2008 in which he had two wins, seven top fives, 18 top 10s and an overall finish of sixth. His most productive years, 1996 to 2004, were with Roush Fenway Racing during which Burton posted 17 of his 21 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories.

His career-best season was 2000 when he posted three wins and finished third in the championship. In 1999, Burton won six times and had 18 top-five and 23 top-10 finishes, however, three poor results left him fifth overall. Burton also raced in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for 20 years with an enviable record of 27 victories, 90 top fives, 153 top 10s and 11 poles. He is the younger brother of retired driver and Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton. His nephew Jeb Burton competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
