2002: Ward Burton wins the biggest race of his career, the Daytona 500. This race is remembered for what Sterling Marlin did during a red-flag period with seven laps to go. Marlin, who had the lead, jumped out of his car to work on his right front fender, an illegal move. Marlin had to go to the tail end of the lead lap for the restart. That gave the lead to Burton, who held off Elliott Sadler by.193 seconds. Geoff Bodine is third.
