1991: Ricky Rudd wins the TranSouth 500 at Bristol for his only win in the 1991 Cup season. It enables Rudd to extend his streak of at least one victory in a Cup season to nine. The streak, which begas in 1983, ran through 1998. Rudd was winless in 1999 and 2000 but bounced back with two wins in 2001 and one in 2002. He finishes his career with 23 wins in 906 Cup starts during 32 seasons. On this day, he wins by 11.32 seconds over Davey Allison. Michael Waltrip, who leads a race-high 208 laps, finishes third, the only other car on the lead lap.
