1956: Owner Carl Kiekhaefer sweeps both NASCAR races run on this day. Speedy Thompson wins the Cup race at Hickory (N.C.) Speedway, and Frank Mundy wins the Convertible Series race across the state at Raleigh Speedway. Mundy leads 94 of the 100 laps at the 1-mile track and beats Jimmy Massey by three-quarters of a lap. Glen Wood is third, one lap back. Thompson leads all 200 laps at the fourth-tenths mile dirt track.
