1976: Benny Parson beats Richard Petty to the finish line by 15 seconds to win the Nashville 420 at Nashville Speedway. It is Parson's fifth career win. Darrell Waltrip finishes third, the only other car on the lead lap. Parsons starts sixth and becomes only the fourth driver to start outside the top five and win at the track. In fact, no driver who starts outside the top 10 wins a Cup race at Nashville. Thirty-five of the 42 races are won by drivers starting in the top five.
