1971: Richard Petty wins the Capital City 500 at Richmond to give him 20 victories in a season for the second time in his career. Petty leads 330 of 500 laps on the .542-mile track and beats Bobby Allison by one lap. Pete Hamilton finishes third, 10 laps behind Petty. Petty will win the final race of the season to give him 21 wins. He won 27 races in 1967.
