1963: Junior Johnson and Johnny Rutherford, both driving Chevrolets for legendary car owners, split victories in 100-mile Daytona 500 qualifying races. Johnson campaigns a No. 3 Chevy for Ray Fox, besting Paul Goldsmith by 70 yards in the first race. Rutherford, who later achieved fame in IndyCar racing, scores his only NASCAR win driving Smokey Yunick's feared No. 13, edging Rex White by three car-lengths in the second qualifier.
