1919: Buck Baker, the 1956 and '57 champion of NASCAR's premier series, is born this day. Baker, named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers, scored 46 wins and 45 poles over his storied career. He also competed in NASCAR's first Strictly Stock (now Sprint Cup) race in 1949, driving a '48 Kaiser to an 11th-place finish in the 33-car field.
