1961: Hall of Famer David Pearson posts his first victory in NASCAR's premier series, nursing his car home on three good tires to win the World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Pearson led 225 of the 400 laps, but blew a tire with a little more than a lap to go. He still finished two laps ahead of runner-up Fireball Roberts. Rex White finished third, another lap back. Pearson went on to score 104 more wins, second on NASCAR's all-time list.
