Returning to Germain Racing for a third full season in 2012, Casey Mears and crew chief Bootie Barker raised their game to a higher level than the year prior when they moved from 31st to 29th in the standings. In 2013, they improved an additional five spots. A ninth-place finish in the Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway was Mears’ best finish since joining the single-car team. Mears and the team improved their consistency with a 97.6% laps completed record.

Mears actually joined Germain in the middle of 2010 season after tenures with Hendrick Motorsports, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and Richard Childress Racing. The 2009 season with Childress saw disappointing results which caused Mears to change teams. In 2008, his final year with Hendrick Motorsports, Mears had one top-five and six top-10 results. Mears’ only NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory, for Hendrick Motorsports, was the 2007 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He posted five top-five and 10 top-10 finishes and a pole that season working with future NASCAR Sprint Cup championship crew chief Darian Grubb. Mears scored his only NASCAR Nationwide Series victory in 2006 at Chicagoland Speedway for Chip Ganassi’s team.

The versatile race car driver who came out of the open-wheel ranks shared the overall victory in the 2006 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
