Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup driver sings 'Shake It Off' in YouTube debut

He's got the music in him. Denny Hamlin did the "Dougie," dancing during his driver intros for the 2012 Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Now he's declared himself a fan of Taylor Swift's Billboard chart-toppin single, "Shake It Off," from her forthcoming first pop record, "1989," with her label Big Machine Records.

James Dennis Alan "Denny" Hamlin Jr. launched his James Hamlin YouTube channel with the 56-second ode to Swift. He serenades his giggling girlfriend, Jordan Fish, with whom he had his first daughter, Taylor James. One can only imagine what young Taylor will think of daddy when she sees and hears him sing another Taylor's tune.

Hamlin told that the video simply happened because the song was stuck in his head.

"I was watching the VMAs a week ago and the song stuck in my head, and then it came on the radio," he said. "I'm kind of this savant when it comes to remembering words to movies and songs. I can't remember the question you asked me two questions ago, but I hear a song a couple of times, I typically can nail it. That song hasn't even been out that long, so trust me, I haven't heard it that many times where I know every single word."

Hamlin did say he has one regret over his tweet of the video.

"I just kind of wish I'd tagged Taylor in my thing so maybe I could've gotten a retweet from someone who has 43 million Twitter followers. That's my only regret."

Swift has approximately 43.1 million followers on Twitter.

Scott Borchetta, the President and CEO of the Big Machine Label Group and Swift's boss, approved of the video via a tweet:

Borchetta is himself a racer, winning three consecutive Super Truck Series championships at Nashville's Fairgrounds Speedway in the 1990s. His company also powers the Crown Royal 400 at the Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Others from the NASCAR industry, including NASCAR Nationwide Series points leader, Chase Elliott, and the most recent winner in the Nationwide Series, Ryan Blaney, a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular, weighed in.

Singer Tim Dugger had some advice for Hamlin to stay away from friend and fellow Toyota driver Michael Waltrip.

Meanwhile, Chicagoland Speedway, which will host Hamlin as part of the 16-driver Chase Grid in the opening race of NASCAR's playoffs on Sunday, Sept. 14, says it all.
