Kahne joined employees from sponsor Farmers Insurance and volunteers from the Rebuild Joplin program Wednesday to install siding at a house that was decimated more than two years ago.
"It has been a special experience to take part in Farmers' efforts in rebuilding Joplin for the future," Kahne said. "Whether in Joplin or other communities throughout the country, I am proud to be affiliated with a company so committed to helping people plan for the future and restore their lives after a loss."
Rebuild Joplin was founded in 2011, initially as a website, to coordinate donations and volunteers for emergency assistance. It's now shifted to the repair and rebuilding of homes located at the heart of the tornado's path. So far, the program has rebuilt 71 homes to date.
Farmers Insurance launched a long-term initiative in May 2013 to help with recovery efforts from devastating disasters through dedication of resources, assets, expertise and financial commitments.
On Tuesday at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Kahne unveiled his 2014 Farmers Insurance paint scheme. Watch the unveil and hear Kahne talk about the new look in NASCAR.com's Chase Chat, in which he also says if he wasn't driving for a living, he probably would build houses like his grandfather.
