Widespread environmental initiative shown in full force throughout industry

Today is April 22, which can only mean one thing.

With Saturday's Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway bringing a close to the month-long NASCAR Race to Green program, an extra focus is placed on environmental awareness this week around the sport. It should also be noted that NASCAR is the sports leader in renewable energy.

RIR president Dennis Bickmeier got in the green spirit ahead of his venue's race weekend, painting the word "Richmond" in bright green along the track's start/finish line.

Richmond wasn't alone, as Daytona International Speedway hosted a tree-planting event to add 35 new trees to a local Florida community center.
