Famous ice-dancing duo to give command for Pure Michigan 400

Cue Scotty Hamilton and Peggy Fleming, because ice-dancing royalty will be on hand to give the command for the Pure Michigan 400 on Aug. 17 at Michigan International Speedway. The United States' first-ever Olympic gold medalist team of Meryl Davis and Charlie White will be present to kick off the running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' 23rd race of the 2014 season.

"We are happy to have Meryl Davis and Charlie White serve as Grand Marshals for the Pure Michigan 400," track President Roger Curtis said. "It was exciting to cheer the pair to Olympic Gold in the 2014 Games. It will be great to welcome them to MIS."

Paired since 1997, Davis and White are the longest-running ice-dancing partnership in U.S. figure skating history, so in other words, their successful longevitiy is on par with four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon, who is currently the series points leader.

But it's possible both skaters will be rooting for hometown-favorite Brad Keselowski instead, becasue they both were born and raised in Michigan.

Since their Olympic triumph, Davis and White both competed on season 18 of Dancing wth the Stars. Davis and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy took home the Mirror Ball Trophy as the champions.

On Thursday, the duo was at Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Canton, Michigan, to meet Austin Dillon, driver of the No. 3 American Ethanol Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series, and give him some finer points on ice skating.
